Chocolate Peak to Ruwau Lake and Bishop Pass Trail. I traced my steps back to the Pass, then found a descent herd path to Ruwau Lake. This was the finest lake. Sitting at 11,044' , the lake had an island that seemed artistically placed. I spent 20 minutes trying to capture a good photography:

The lakes really steal the show. South Lake to start, and then Bull, Chocolate, Ruwau, and Long Lakes along the loop. Chocolate Peak itself is a sight with its unusual chocolatey-brown color surrounded by the more typical gray granite. From the top you've got a fantastic view of Cloudripper, Picture Puzzle, Mount Goode, Hurd Peak, and down on all those lakes.

Got back to Ruwau Lake and hiked up Chocolate Peak which was well worth the views from the top. Took the Chocolate Lakes Loop back to the Bishop Pass to finish off another day of awesome hiking/climbing weather. As other reviewers have mentioned, the Bishop Pass Trail is in great shape for a very scenic hike.

I took a fun dayhike up and around Chocolate Peak on the Bishop Pass Trail, out of the the South Lake Trailhead; it was the final part of my three-day plan to get acclimated to high elevation for an upcoming multi-day trek. Chocolate Peak is not the best peak in the area, however, if you want a mountain all to yourself within 10 minutes from Reno, this is a good one. The hike offers a nice workout gaining just over 3,000 feet in 4.4 miles. Coming down can be done very quickly. This turned out to be a fun ยฝ day hike and is a worthy peak on the Great Basin List.
