The pitman arm should never need to be replaced - one end of it simply bolts to the shaft comming out of the steering gear box and turns with the shaft, and the other end is attached to the drag link, but if that joint is loose or worn, it will be part of the drag link, not the pitman arm. I did it to help keep the tie rod from hitting the drag link's bolt in the pittman. And it took only a few more turns of drag link length adjustment to keep the same steering center.

Like i said pull the cotter pin and nut. If the drag link pulls out of the tie rod without effort it was to loose. If it was actually clunking just make sure the taper of the tie rod and the seat area of the pitman are not damaged. Then bolt it all back. If you need a new drag link look for PMF or other aftermarket.
