Zootermopsis angusticollis is a species of termite (Isoptera) in the family Termopsidae, a group known as the dampwood termites. As their name suggests, the dampwood termites can only survive by living off of wood that contains high amounts of moisture.

These termites have a simple yet strict diet of rotting pine or cedar wood. Humidity levels should be kept relatively high, around 70-90% to ensure the brood develops properly and doesn't dry out. Dampwood Termites will not nest/grow in your house unless it has wet rotting wood.

Pest Details. Native to the United States, and found in the Pacific Coast states and into Canada, and east to Montana and Texas. There are several minor species of dampwood termites in other genera, but the genus Zootermopsis is by far the most widespread, with 3 species in the U.S. The other 3 genera, with one species in each, are in Florida.

PACIFIC DAMPWOOD TERMITE This termite is our largest species. The winged forms (Fig. 2) may exceed one inch in length (25 mm) including the wings. They are cream-colored to dark brown. The soldiers (Fig. 3) have a large reddish brown to blackish head and a cream-colored body.
